About Me

Hi, I am looking to meet some people in the SE Arizona area who are sci fi fans and maybe into music and horticulture as well. Mainly I am really into Doctor Who right now, so looking for other Doctor Who fans. Haven't dated regularly for several years, hoping for friends with benefits types. Must be tolerant of my busy and remote life as a parrot sanctuary animal caretaker. And I love my parrots, but you don't have to know much about parrots at all. Just that I have a lot of responsibilities to them, so I really am not looking for a LTR roommate...they take up most of my house. I have a Master's degree in Public Horticulture, so I can fire off scientific names of plants and animals fairly easily...interested in edible plants and ethnobotany, also stuff like arboriculture and rainwater harvesting.

I am a very knowledgeable person about my obsessions, and interested in learning in general. I prefer to be around intelligent people with senses of humor.

I'm 5'8", glasses, long blonde hair, slender (135 lbs). Kind of geeky/tomboyish. No tattoos, Caucasian.

Masters Degree

a ton of community colleges, Eastern Washington University for undergrad degree (Biology B.S. with Botany concentration), University of Washington, Master's in Environmental Science, Public Horticulture. I considered veterinary medicine or at least becoming a vet technician, but instead focused more on learning plant taxonomy once I got to college. I was interested in becoming a curator at a botanical garden or arboretum, but also was interested in working with zoo collections, especially birds. So now I work at a non-profit parrot sanctuary, but I have done landscaping and created several gardens there in my spare time.
One garden I'm concentrating on is a fruit garden to supplement the parrots' diets seasonally...I am interested in growing unusual edible fruits such as jujubes, persimmons, pomegranates, elderberries, pineapple guavas, blueberries in containers, loquats, che fruit, jelly palms, mayhaws, honeyberries, etc. Also planting a bunch of hybrid Prunus in my backyard this spring and hopefully learning to install drip irrigation finally.

My family all live in Washington state, my dad is deceased, I visit my mother occasionally, and my born again brother and I have a strained relationship.

Music, horticulture, parrots, fantasy/horror/comic books/sci fi, ethnic food, natural history books, learning

I'm isolated...I work a busy job and only have midweek days off. I live beyond cell phone range, so I don't text or use cells much, but I use the internet. Most of my best friends live out of state, but I work closely with the 8 people here on my jobsite where I live. Could use some more friends who live in Tucson or neighboring towns.

I've met a lot of famous people already, dammit! It's kind of overrated...meeting Lou Reed was kind of cool, as was meeting Ray Davies, John Entwistle and Joey Ramone...and R.E.M. at one time was a major thrill for me. Todd Rundgren and Lenny Kaye were both fun to meet. No, can't think of anyone right now...okay, David Tennant and John Barrowman both I'd be quite happy to meet at a con someday. Lots of interesting people out there, but I have a tendency to be introverted and that makes the whole meeting thing a bit stressful. A lot of my past interest centered around rock music, some of my best friends were in bands at various points or at least were very into music as well...and you wind up meeting people when you are that into it.

Right now I'm really into Doctor Who, both current and classic eras. Relatively recent for me, I am kicking myself I hadn't gotten into the shows before! Among favorite movies...Reanimator, Cannibal The Musical, A Boy and His Dog, A Clockwork Orange, Quadrophenia. Haven't read as much in recent decades, last big author fixation was Phillip K. Dick.

I only use alcohol in cooking, and appreciate moderation or abstinence in others.

Have been a vegetarian in the past, not now, but try to eat somewhat healthy. I like a variety of food, especially ethnic foods, and going out to eat.

I don't use drugs myself but have had a lot of friends who used pot or psychedelics. Not interested/tolerant of more addictive drugs.

I am not great at fashion, never could understand spending money on clothes, but occasionally will have a female friend help me dress up a bit better if needed. Always have been more of a tomboy with tshirts and jeans type. Not that I look bad in a dress...

It takes more work than I have time for! No, I have been lucky in that I have never really had a weight problem with my metabolism. I know that is not the case for everyone. I have gone out with overweight guys in the past, but prefer people who are somewhat healthy.

Regular bathing is good. Some might think of me as a neohippie, but showering/bathing daily is not overrated.

I have never wanted to have kids. If I had had kids, I'm sure I would have raised them to be educated and have been best friends with them if I could have, but I don't seek out kids in general unless they share an interest of mine.

I live with a bunch of parrots. I work as an animal caretaker at a parrot sanctuary. Like all animals, more a dog person than a cat person, but don't trust most other types of animals in my home around my birds. They rule, and are my substitute for kids, so I'm kind of particular about keeping them safe from being eaten or hurt by anyone else. And they are a lot of work and mean I need to go home daily to take care of them.

Liberal with emphasis on gay/queer rights. No homophobes please, though overall I'm fairly straight myself with a few quirks.

Agnostic with atheistic/pagan sympathies. Not into born again or fundamentalist religions.

Never have smoked, not real keen on it. Smoking is not allowed in my house around my parrots, they are more likely to get lung problems from exposure than humans.
