About Me

My name is Dena. I'm awkward, tattooed, and alas, a geek. I'm not a geek in gamer sense, and the only comic book I own is the one Joss put out for Firefly. I own a total of 3 manga and 1 anime series lol I suck at math, so no super computer savvy skills to be had other than the occasional basic html stuff...No, I'm the other kind of geek.
I talk. A lot. I can be a quite energetic. I am a walking. calamity. - but I have a great sense of humor about it! I trip over the cracks in the sidewalks and walk into walls pretty frequently. Ironically, I have never broken a bone *knocks on wood*.
I like to write (short stories, screenplays, plays, poetry and song lyrics), watch movies, go for walks, go on adventures, etc...
Here's some stuff I love: puppies, milk chocolate, red wine, vampires, ren faire, sci-fi, lightning, and things blowing up: the bassy sound of explosives & cannons.

Went to catholic school from grades 3-12..which left it's own set of scars lol Went to SUNY Purchase College, BA in Liberal Studies- the epitomy of mediocrity lol I started out in the Dramatic Writing Conservatory, switched schools & majored in English, switched back to Purchase as a Literature major, then switched to Women's Studies and ultimately, in an effort to effin graduate, I switched to Liberal Studies...lol

Assistant Editor (and only employee) of a non profit new age website & personal assistant for my boss. I hate it lol

My (younger & only) brother and I are sometimes the black sheep (Tattooed, non traditional, into metal- I'm a pagan and he's an athiest- in a catholic family lol)My parents are really sweet and supportive, especially with my going through a divorce. I just moved back out on my own.

My interests, hobbies, obsessions:

music, movies, writing, sci-fi, metaphysics (psychic stuff, supernatural stuff - sometimes I see dead people-, consciousness, etc), quantum physics, vampires...

I would like to meet:

Like minded geeks, people to chat with, some friends to chill with during the week after work. I am not dating anymore. No dates. No relationships. They're just complicated and confining.

Other stuff about me:

ummm....I'm a big music and movie nerd. I'm a type 1 diabetic, I use an insulin pump. It's purple and looks like a beeper. lol

My thoughts on Alcohol:

I'm diabetic so I cant drink like I used to, i have a hard time getting and maintaining a buzz (except with red wine), and cant have clear liquor or whiskey so (either gives me a migraine or turns me into a slut lol)...I'll drink but its not a hobby or my idea of a "great time". I stick to red wine and "Dena Beers" as my friends call em, Michelob Ultra Light...2.6g of carbs per bottle lol And I have to snack when I drink (alcohol lowers blood sugar). I'm a pro when I do party but...after college I've chilled out a bit haha

My thoughts on Diet:

I'm a type 1 diabetic but i'm not a role model...LOL I try to eat low carb like I'm supposed to, but it's very difficult and often inconvenient... I also have a chocolate & cookie problem lol

My thoughts on Drugs:

Not for me. I've got too much going on in the brain and the body chemistry to even consider messing with them. But I don't judge. Unless you are a crackhead or a tweeker... the epic fail of your life kind makes me giggle and then I feel bad for giggling because it's still mean...lol...sorry.

My thoughts on Fashion:

Meh. I'm kinda goth, kinda punk, kinda whatever was on sale that week in Target lol

My thoughts on Fitness:

I try....I often fail...but I try LOL I'm not overweight, I fluctuate between 125 & 122 lbs. I'm lucky to have a decently quick metabolism, however it is definitely beginning to slow down. (booo! haha) I'm also kind of like an ant in that I can carry a lot more than you'd think at first glance (born out of the necessity of being a tiny person and an independant soul).

My thoughts on Hygiene:

IMPERATIVE. It is one of my biggest pet peeves and if you skeeve me out, I wont talk to you lol Stinky, greasy, grimey people make me gag- literally. There is no reason not to bathe. Unless you're homeless...in which case it would be highly unlikely you'd be online right now reading this..lol
I, on the other hand, cannot handle leaving the house without showering...ever. And I'm notorious for killing off the hot water every morning lol I never get out of the shower without my finger tips being all pruned and wrinkley hehe

My thoughts on Kids:

I love em, am working on getting into the childcare field, but I *never* want to procreate. It's not that I don't want to be a mother, I just don't think physically carrying a child and then shoving it out of my really tiny vajay-jay is for me lol. It's also a mind blowing responsibility I don't think I will ever be ready to handle 24-7.

My thoughts on Pets:

I love dogs, my parents have a Havanese named Ziggy. He's one of those breeds that don't shed. I grew up with a golden retreiver named Max...he passed in 2001, and I still miss him. I'm VERY allergic to cats and some breeds of dogs (like Beagles- no snoopy for me lol) I used to have gerbils, the last of them died last spring :-( I would love to have a snake one day...preferrably a Ball Python.

My thoughts on Politics:

Complete Transparency. I am 200% behind Wikileaks...etc. I don't trust or believe a thing our government says or claims. V for Vendetta is one of my favorite movies. Firefly is one of my favorite shows... I did a lot of activist work in college with NYPIRG. (New York Public Interest Research Group - www.nypirg.org) It's a grass roots, non partisan, non profit organization. I worked on the Environmental Protection campaign the most (as a project leader), I've lobbied legislators and worked on things like the Bigger Better Bottle Bill...Politics in general annoy the crap out of me...but I can't help want to change it all myself lol I have a save the world complex.

My thoughts on Religion:

I'm a witch, been so for the last 11 years. I'm not Wiccan. I'm eclectic. I also feel very comfortable with some Buddhist ideologies. I also dabble in alchemy and angelology in efforts to deal with some demonology conflicts an irresponsible ex bf brought into my life. I dont really "practice" anymore. I intensely dislike organized/structured religions with institutions. The Earth is my church. To each their own. If you disagree, please keep it to yourself lol

My thoughts on Smoking:

I smoke ciggs. I've tried quitting before, but at this point in my life, it's infinitely better than developing a drinking problem haha If you don't like it, don't feel compelled to tell me...anti-smokers and ex smokers who preach royally piss me off. :-)
I don't toke anymore, makes me sleepy. But it was the best natural way to manage the ADHD.
