nekouken

Hi! My name is Mike. I am a geek of many flavors; I love science fiction, I'm a big fan of superheroes, I really dig the sciences, ethical philosophy intrigues me, and I apparently like quotes. I'm an enthusiastic friend looking for people like me. I surround myself with people who meet a set of extremely high standards. I hate crowds and much favor smaller, more intimate gatherings. As Sarah Haskins said recently, "why stand in line for booze and dancing when I have booze and dancing in my very own living room?"
Richard Jeni suggested putting one's cards on the table on the first date. I've decided to one-up him by listing the common deal-breakers I hit right here in my profile so you'll know without having to ask:
1) I'm an Atheist
2) I don't actively want to get married*
3) I don't actively want or especially like children*
4) I'm really only looking for casual dating right now. I have some more personal growth I'd like to put forth before I try my hand at settling down again.
5) I'm overweight and not really ashamed of it
* I think these warrant clarification: I'm content as a single, childless man. Neither of these things strike me as necessary for me to be happy or for a relationship to be classified as a successful one. That doesn't mean I'm opposed to either for myself -- just that I'm not thinking about it on the first date.

I am:

My social life:

I like to keep it relatively slow-paced and I need time alone to unwind. Other than that, no limits; gaming, tv, movies, dinner out, dinner in, shopping, the theatre ... for some reason those are the only things I can think of. If you've got any other ideas, propose them. I'll try anything once.

My insides:

I'm a walking Rifftrax. I spent my twenties watching MST3k and it kind of broke my brain. I think about everything; I hesitate to use the word "overthink," because I don't think that's possible, but I often put considerable thought into things that arguably don't merit it.

My outsides:

I mentioned above that I'm overweight. I'm working on eating healthier and when it warms up I will be looking into an exercise regimen because I really would like to lose some weight, but yeah, I'm big. Other than that, I'm white, dependent on my glasses and I'm equally comfortable in t-shirt and jeans or dressed to the nines.

Occupation:

I'm a lab technician. I refurbish used test equipment for resale. That's pretty much it. If you know what an oscilloscope is, you have a rough idea of what I do. I'm good at it, though, and it's nice to work at a place where that's appreciated.

Schools Attended:

ITT Technical Institute

My interests, hobbies, obsessions:

I'm interested in lots of stuff and always willing to try something new. My hobbies include A/V editing and comic books, and

Education Level:
College Graduate
I would like to meet:

Right now, I'm looking for someone with some common interests and a sense of fun. Long term, I'm looking for that, and a MSTie.

My family:

I'm close with my sister, slightly less close with my mom, and I don't talk to my dad or his side of the family.

Your thoughts in a nutshell
My thoughts on Smoking:

You can, I won't.

My thoughts on Religion:

I'm an atheist. Believe what you like. I won't convert, but I'll happily date someone who thinks I'm going to hell and I actually rather enjoy religious debate.

My thoughts on Politics:

Socially I'm extremely liberal. Economically I'm a centrist on the chart, but conservatives insist I'm a far out leftist because I don't think socialism is inherently evil.

My thoughts on Pets:

I love pets. I have two old cats. I don't really want a dog, but I do like them.

My thoughts on Kids:

They're like dogs; I don't really want one, but I do like them.

My thoughts on Alcohol:

I've never been drunk, but sometimes a glass of wine or a bottle or Mike's Hard something just goes better with what I'm eating.

My thoughts on Diet:

I know my way around the kitchen. I haven't figured out the low-sugar, low-fat part of it yet. I'm working on it, though.

My thoughts on Drugs:

I won't smoke pot with you, because I hated it the one time I tried it, but it's OK if you do. I won't take anything else, either, but I'll be less OK with it if you do.

My thoughts on Hygiene:

Clean I like. You needn't wear any perfume with me; just smell like you've bathed. I'll return the favor.

My thoughts on Fitness:

We don't talk.

My thoughts on Fashion:

I've been t-shirt and jeans my whole life, but I'm building up my nerd couture t-shirts and I look damn good in a suit. Other than that, I watched the first three seasons of Ugly Betty and I liked it.
