JessieBC

Hey yall! I'm Jessie. I am a 21-year-old college student studying psychology and nonprofit management. I'm a self described sorority-girl/geek hybrid. On the sorority side: I love meeting new people, going on spontaneous (sometimes dangerous)adventures, and I know what "snappy casual" is (may God have mercy on my soul). On the geek side: I love Doctor Who (newwho), X files, and firefly. My favorite books at the moment: any Neil Gaiman book, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Love is a Mixtape, Jane Eyre, and My Inventions (Nikola Tesla). One day I want someone to teach me code and all that computer voodoo, because I think computer skills are sexy. I am a thinking Christian, and I see science as the language of God. One of the all time joys of my life is having deep, intelligent conversations with good people.

My social life:

Sorority Life (my big sister takes me to the doctor who con!), My cowboy friends back home, my surfer people who I love to chill with, my church friends (who are a lot more fun than you may think!), my friends on Venice beach, and well, its college, so too many random encounters to mention. I love it!

My insides:

I try to be joyful always and see the great potential each moment and each person holds. I love to laugh, but I don't think I'm that funny. I am a fiercely loyal friend, and a great listener (partly because it's my job now!). I am a classic yes-man, which sometimes means I get trampled on, over-committed, and used. But I can never say know to something that may be the next great adventure!

My outsides:

I am a natural blonde (with a pink streak), blue eyed, 5' 4", and pleasantly plump (a term stolen from my mother- 175lbs?). I don't know my blood type (why do you need to know that? Not that I'm anti-vamp or anything), I don't have any tattoos at the moment. I love wearing brightly colored items found either at target or the nearest resale shop, but occasionally I like to go classy!

Occupation:

I am a student-full time, but I also work at a elementary school as a aid for special education and I am a Spiritual Life Advisor for freshman girls (basically I live in a freshman dorm and mentor the young Padawans). Future plans: Child Clinical Psychologist. I want to work with at-risk children starting nationally and then internationally

Other stuff about me:

I love doing anything outdoors (except crazy uphill hiking), especially going to the beach, flying kites, and people-watching. I also love stepping out my front door and going on a wander. I've meet some incredible people and done some awesome things that way! Being on this site is the virtual equivalent of that, I suppose.

Schools Attended:

Well, since I am currently at college, I won't say where if there are creepers lurking about (but seriously, if you wanted to you could figure it out, so please don't come and kill me in my sleep!).

Places you've worked:

so many jobs around the University, at the local elementary school, consulting jobs for Santa Paula Art Museum and Project Understanding, and Lifeline Chaplaincy

My interests, hobbies, obsessions:

I love getting into different art mediums, currently: woodburning. I go to the beach every Thursday to sing. I am a little bit (okay, very much) obsessed with the Beatles and doctor who. I love volunteering, especially with kids (last spring break went to Haiti, this spring break, Mexico!). I don't know if it counts as a hobby, but I love getting to know new people, and sharing life with them!

Education Level:
Some College
I would like to meet:

Someone committed to living a life of substance. Whether that meaning be in a chosen profession, in hobbies, or in relationships, I would love to hear about it! I love people who are passionate, it doesn't really matter to me about what. I want to meet people who are hopeful about what the world has in store, and who are committed to making it a happier place, even in the small ways (especially in the small ways.) I love music, so I want someone who is up for going to random concerts and being a little bit pretentious about rock-and-roll. Kindness is of paramount importance, and I want to meet someone with an abundance of love for their friends. I want to laugh, communicate, explore, and learn with someone!

My family:

I am a Southern girl, raised in Tennessee. I was raised by a single mother, who is the epitome of strength and perseverance. I have two older half-siblings, who are rock-star doctors now. I grew up in a house held together by books and science experiments, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I came to California on a scholarship, and it is my favorite place in the world. But part of my heart still belongs to blues music, BBQ, and country living. and if you are wondering, yes I can make a damn good apple pie (if you're lucky!).

Your thoughts in a nutshell
My thoughts on Smoking:

I would never do it, but in moderation I can tolerate it (but if you do it around children, be prepared for the look of death!)

My thoughts on Religion:

I am a fervent Christian. However, I am much more into the community of Christ that into the rules, regulations, and overall closed-mindedness I see in the church today. God is Love! and I love learning about other faiths.

My thoughts on Politics:

I don't trust politicians. period.

My thoughts on Pets:

I LOVE dogs! I live in the dorm, so no pets, but as soon as I move into the real world, I am getting a shelter dog. Cats are okay, as long as they are fat.

My thoughts on Kids:

I love kids! Seeing as that is my chosen profession, I better. However, I don't want to have my own, I want to adopt.

My thoughts on Alcohol:

Moderation: don't get crazy, but don't be a prude!

My thoughts on Diet:

I like food, all food, and I like trying new things. I think food is fuel and a tool to open communication and transfer culture. But once you let in control your life (either by eating too much or too little) it becomes a barrier rather that a bridge.

My thoughts on Drugs:

Personally, I abstain, because I don't like losing control of my thoughts and my body. But I am not going to judge another's decision.

My thoughts on Hygiene:

It's good, always good.

My thoughts on Fitness:

it's good I guess? But my thing is why should I go to the gym when there is about 10.5 billion things I could be doing that are more important.

My thoughts on Fashion:

Be who you want to be, fearlessly and without trepidation, and you look beautiful!
