I have 4 dogs, play the guitar, piano, and video games, I own my own web-based business that runs sort of like Amazon and e-bay, I love conventions like sakuracon and various comiccons around the world, I love to travel and meet new people, and I love to have fun. If you would like to know more about me, just ask.
Hello world, I'm Zach. I came here to find Friends and maybe that special someone.
My interests include Sci-Fi of all kinds, Fantasy, RPGs, LARPing, Cosplay, and Steampunking NERF and Water guns.
For those of you looking for that special someone too, I'm Brave, Loyal, Strong, and I fiercely defend those I care about. I like long walks in the woods, I like camping, and various outdoor activities. So if some lady out there chooses me, I wont let you down. I promise.
I love watching Star Wars, I love Playing Fallout 3, and I love turning water guns into Steampunk weapons. Roleplaying is something I enjoy doing, I like to dress up and pretend to be other people, I also write short stories, and am currently making my own game.
If you have any questions, you can message me however you message other people on this site.
I am a fairly normal guy who likes science and nerdy stuff. I would rather read a book than watch a movie, but books are not a substitute. Video games are awesome, but most video games aren't. Conversations that are silly are always fun, but so are serious ones as well. I am an older college student, but I have more younger friends than I do older, although I don't have a preference. Some questions I ask myself are, why are Asians so hot? Why are Leela and Amy so hot? What would life look like without mass extinctions? Why am I asking myself these questions? And other weird thoughts about science, sci-fi and fantasy. I really enjoy hanging out with some good conversation and company. With all this in mind I will say that I am not really interested in one area of Geekdom, unless that is an area.
I'm a hopelessly romantic, goof ball of a normal guy. I like to laugh at the little things in life that don’t go right, or just the absolutely absurd. I think pessimistically yet I’m an optimist. It doesn’t take much to make me happy. I don’t mind going out; because that’s always fun. However I’d rather spend the night with a few good friends. Anything from a movie; to gaming; to just hanging out.
Right now I'm in school for interior design, evidently I'm pretty good at it. Yup, I'm a straight guy going for interior design.
I like gaming; mostly console, but I haven't tried MMORPGs, because I'm sure I'd get addicted. I used to play D&D regularly, but would love to branch out to more table tops (be it GURPS, Werewolf, or the like). My favorite video games include Final Fantasy (any of them), Chibi-Robo, Odinsphere, Dynasty Warriors, Breath of Fire (any of them), Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry, God of War, Mario, Guitar Hero, and Rock Band.
My TV is usually tuned to Discovery, Sci-Fi Channel, Cartoon Network, or G4. I still watch cartoons, c’mon, who grew up in the 80’s and didn’t watch Voltron or Thundercats? Great series, to me would include Dr. Who, Mythbusters, Mystery Science Theatre, Leverage, and Whose Line is it Anyway? Movies that peak my interest are usually sci fi, fantasy, comedy, or anime; including the LOTR trilogy, the first 3 Star Wars, Rush Hour, Ninja Scroll, Princess Bride, Tron, Spirited Away, Clash of the Titans, and Monty Python. Two of my favorite directors are Tim Burton, even though I hated his take on Planet of the Apes, and Mel Brooks. I love watching B movies, from those made for TV ones on the Sci-Fi Channel, to zombie movies with loads of fake blood and gore, to Mom and Dad Save the World. Haven’t watched it? Go rent it! I’m not that sure about reality shows though, unless it’s a game show; then I just have to play along.
My library, well that’s what I like to call it, includes such best sellers as Tolkien, The Dresden Files, Journey into the West, various cocktail books, R. A. Salvatore, and Robert Jordan. Unfortunately I’ve grown away from manga and comics, but I used to love me a good Marvel yarn. I still haven’t read Watchmen. I’d listen to any kind of music, but I’m partial to rock, classical, electronica, and alternative. Some of my favorite bands/musicians include Shiny Toy Guns, Dinosaur JR, Nobuo Uematsu, Vivaldi, Darude, Beach Boys, Beastie Boys, Weird Al Yankovich, Godsmack, System of A Down, and Nine Inch Nails.
Ren Faires are a great way to spend a day, even though I’ve only been to the one in town and Bristol. Yes, I did dress up for the last one I went to. I’d love to go to conventions; sci fi, movie, comic; yet I hate doing things by myself and I usually can’t talk my friends into tagging along. Probably because I would insist in dressing up.
I’ve become addicted to shopping, doesn’t matter what for. On some of my recent excursions I bought T-shirts (I have over 200), Styrofoam heads, action figures, shoes (Chucks are the best.), and a gargoyle. I collect random things, usually whatever sparks my interest, and I love going to swap meets, garage sales, and Goodwill stores.
I’m pretty much my friends go to guy for whining and cheer. Usually it’s from a well place sarcastic comment, looking on the brighter side of things, just listening, or being my clumsy self. I try to have fun with whatever I’m doing, and am comfortable in almost any situation. Mind you I would still feel the pressure in a hostage situation.
I am... excited. Its a tendency whenever I try something new and there's nothing more new than taking a road trip literally across the US and ending up in Logan, Utah of all places! That probably says more about me than the rest of this will. Some would call me exotic, of course those are probably not from Miami to begin with or they wouldn't be calling Cuban's exotic. Some would also call me outgoing, energetic, or even daring! They're partly right. I can be all those things and more, exhibiting my latin penchant for passion; but I also know the benefits and lure of a simple afternoon doing nothing more than enjoying the breeze with your favorite book.
Of course, I also love getting together with some friends and playing board games, though lately I've really been wanting to play some DnD but can't find anyone in Logan, Utah!
So please, if you're interested in ever meeting up, playing some games or just chatting, look me up.
I am a study in contradictions, I am a dreamer, loyal, intense, thoughtful, emotionally honest, creative, and personal, but I can also be moody and self-conscious.
I believe in being thoughtful in all I do, but I also believe doing something is almost always better than doing nothing.
I am the kind of person that has a deep need to know what lies beneath the surface. That applies to people as well as the earth, the oceans and everything else. I have always questioned everything and have never been satisfied with taking another persons word for the larger questions such as who we are, where we come from, what our purpose is, is there a god, etc. I've spent my life in pursuit of my own answers to those questions and many more. I've made some startling discoveries along the way.
I tend to focus less on the exact words coming out of a persons mouth than I do the meaning and intent behind them. So don't come back to me later with something like "no when I said f%#@you I meant I think you're sexy."
I ALWAYS think outside the box. In fact most of the time I don't even know where the damned thing is or whether the cat inside really exists.
I'm a very passionate person when it comes to something that interests me and I will learn as much as I can on the subject while it holds me. Those interests tend to change every few years like most people I think. The longest thing that held me was martial arts. I've got several degrees of black belt in several different styles of martial arts and various forms of traditional weapons. That like the others finally faded and was replace by something new. I currently have 1 private student or plan to if we can ever get things rolling. That's only because he's such a cool guy and showed serious interest.
I'm still waiting for the year divorce calender to count down so right now I'm really looking to meet new people not jump into a serious relationship with anyone. It starts with friendship anyway though does it not? I've always gotten along better with women than men and I don't know another nerd in this whole state so I'm missing friendship more than anything else.
I have your fairly standard set of geek interests. I spammed the tags area a bit, so check those details to get a quick idea.
About my personality: Well, I'm seriously introverted, and seem to have a condition known as Avoidant Personality Disorder. Check it out on Wikipedia - basically this line from there describes me pretty well:
"Loss and rejection are so painful that these individuals will choose to be lonely rather than risk trying to connect with others."
So, I tend to hang out online on forums and email or IM a lot, but don't make many friendships. Anyway, I'm working on that problem.
My main reason for joining this site is to make more geek friends - hopefully locally - and maybe meet someone special at some point.
(this seems perfect for me, except for the lack of local members. Well, trying this anyway).
More about me in general: I'm a programmer at a local advertising company. I work with a lot of systems stuff. I get to work with Python all day long, and don't need to deal with clients =)
I spend most of my free time at home (I live by myself). I spend a huge amount of time on the internet - lurking tech sites like Slashdot or Hacker News. Plus I'm involved in various other hobby and interest-related forums.
I also spend a lot of time on various hobbies - generally random programming-related things. At other times, I'll play video games (generally RPGs), watch anime, random scifi TV shows, or anything else that's interesting.
Some specific examples:
- Favorite video games: Diablo 2, Star Control 2, Ar tonelico 2
(seems like I like the second game in video game series a lot of the time)
- Currently Playing: Mass Effect 2
- Favorite Anime series: Trigun (amongst many others)
- Currently watching: Nanoha Strikers
- Favorite manga: Negima
- Currently reading: A.I. Love You
(Ken Akamatsu is my favorite mangaka)
- My favorite project: A visual novel I worked on called "An Ordinary Life". Basically an obscure fan game based on an obscure Japanese Console Roleplaying game.
- My current project: Translating a flash game into English from Japanese, and also writing a replacement website and web service for it (the Japanese game company that runs it, is shutting it down at the end of this year).
My social and family life, is next to non-existent. I'm pretty much a hermit at this point in my life - most of my friends are online. I wish I could change that, but I first need to overcome my "avoidance" personality, which stops me from connecting with people. Like I said, I'm working on that.
