Hi! My name is Mike. I am a geek of many flavors; I love science fiction, I'm a big fan of superheroes, I really dig the sciences, ethical philosophy intrigues me, and I apparently like quotes. I'm an enthusiastic friend looking for people like me. I surround myself with people who meet a set of extremely high standards. I hate crowds and much favor smaller, more intimate gatherings. As Sarah Haskins said recently, "why stand in line for booze and dancing when I have booze and dancing in my very own living room?"
Richard Jeni suggested putting one's cards on the table on the first date. I've decided to one-up him by listing the common deal-breakers I hit right here in my profile so you'll know without having to ask:
1) I'm an Atheist
2) I don't actively want to get married*
3) I don't actively want or especially like children*
4) I'm really only looking for casual dating right now. I have some more personal growth I'd like to put forth before I try my hand at settling down again.
5) I'm overweight and not really ashamed of it
* I think these warrant clarification: I'm content as a single, childless man. Neither of these things strike me as necessary for me to be happy or for a relationship to be classified as a successful one. That doesn't mean I'm opposed to either for myself -- just that I'm not thinking about it on the first date.
i usually put this on other sites, but not a lot of people get it. if you get it, then you bonus points. i refuse to use capital letters unless it's something important like a paper for school. i'm currently going to school for journalism and work part time in a bakery. i love to talk about music, books, art, and movies. i also love to play video games and currently own a ps3 and xbox as well as my first nintendo, snes, and n64. just would love to find someone to be awesome and spontaneous with.
My self-summary
Why hello there. I've never really done the whole internet dating thing, but if it worked for Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, I thought I'd give it a shot. Now, before we proceed, I feel I SHOULD reveal something about me, so there are no misconceptions...yes, I AM incredibly adorable and extremely charming. That being said, I am in a wheelchair (how was that for beating around the bush?). I realize this may be a deal breaker, but I'm open to any questions and or inquiries. In other me news though, I am a filmmaker, a college graduate from USC, and I know how to make some mean take out dinner. People say I'm funny and as a kid I always wanted to be a stand up comedian, but was never really good at the standing up part (see, cripple humor! Is it still awkward?). Anyway, I'd like to meet someone who is fun and artsy and can have a good sense of humor about things. I love movies, going to concerts, seeing new art exhibits, theatre, all around artsy fartsy things. I also enjoy politics (liberal) and just good conversation in general. I think there's something to be said about people who can simply enjoy long talks. I'm just here to see what's out there and if it turns into something serious, great! Basically I'm looking for someone to have fun with and make laugh til they pee there pants. So, I'm looking for someone to pee their pants with?...wait, what?
What I’m doing with my life
Right now I freelance anything film related, but my goal is to be a full time writer/director and purveyor of classyness.
I’m really good at
I think I'm really good at making people laugh, I'm a loyal friend, and I'm a good listener.. Also I dabble in the smooth sounds of the jazz flute...okay, that last part isn't true, but that would be pretty awesome.
The first things people usually notice about me
Probably the first thing people think when they see me is, "Hey, is that Ryan Gosling?" But seriously, it's obviously the chair. It's hard to hide. Just like my sparkling personality and majestic blue eyes. Also, people seem to think I'm a pretty nice guy.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Oh jeez, I could make a whole profile just on what my favorite films are, but definitely anything by David Lynch, the Coen bros, Stanley Kubrick, Coppola, Scorsese, Aronofsky, Bergman, the Pythons, the list goes on! Also, if you love Troll 2, you already occupy a special place in my heart.
TV, you must love Arrested Development and The Simpsons, but I also love 30 Rock, The Office, Lost, Six Feet Under, The Walking Dead, anything on AMC really, Glee, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, South Park, Pee-Wee's Playhouse, and pretty much anything on Nickelodeon from the late 80s early 90s.
As far as music, I WISH I could be that guy at a hipster party who could pull out some obscure indie band in conversation. Like, "Oh, if you like Dinosaur Pancake Disco, then you're gonna LOVE The Larry King Suspender Initiative!" But I'm not that guy. I'm like, "Oh, hey have you heard of this band, Nirvana? I think if the word gets out, they're gonna be huge." I do love music though, so if you know more than me, you can teach me.
The six things I could never do without
1. Creativity
2. Hope
3. Humor
4. Friends/Family
5. Knowledge
6. Tom Selleck's mustache. Good lord that will be a sad day when that man dies with that glorious mustache still on his face.
On a typical Friday night I am
A typical Friday night varies. I'm not a big clubber or bar hop. I'm simple, I enjoy just hanging out watching a movie, do some writing, but I also like seeing theatre or going to art shows, etc.
You should message me if
You should message me if you like to laugh, are open minded, and looking for someone to survive the zombie apocalypse with.
I'm just a plain old guy looking to meet new people. I love music, books, video games, and internet. I'm pretty easy to get along with and single. I can be random at times, and i still have manners and know how to respect people and their boundaries. I'm good at building things and creative stuff. I like using my mind as much as i can, and i think about EVERYTHING.Also, I don't actually look like the pirate flag, I just don't have any pictures on my computer. I'll put one up later tonight.
Hi. I'm Alexia. Or Lexi. I'm very hyperactive, and I'm almost constantly busy. I watch a lot of shows and movies. I love the horror genre. Uh. Well. I'm bad at talking about myself. I'm very private about meeting people/Facebook/et cetera. So be understanding. I'm usually just a happy person who doesn't sleep often and cooks a lot. :)
Someone, somehow, has teleported me to this galaxy in the XXI century. I find comfort in dwelling in the past, be it girls' school stories from in-between the wars, heartfelt music from the 60's (like Janis Joplin) or literature from the XIX century. I'm also into fantasy worlds and sci-fi, but mostly into brainy interpretations of the past.
I'm a Spanish woman (I'll say "woman" instead of "girl" because I know that my 30th birthday is approaching) living and working in Cambridge, UK. I've been here for a while already and I kind of like it... besides the weather, of course. Most of my friends are from the international scene. Before that, I used to live in Germany and even before that I lived in Barcelona, Spain (one of my favourite cities in the world).
As said, I often feel stuck in the wrong world or time, though I manage to live my daily life without scaring people too much. I like cheese, films, reading, comics, videogames, music and travelling, and I have a shameful passion for Blyton-esque schoolgirls in old books, which you would have to deal with. Other passions include suicidal singers and musicals with transvestites, or even going out to have dinner can turn into an awesome experience.
I'm usually nice and friendly. I'm not a social person per se, but I need to come out of my shell from time to time. I tend to get on better with people on a 1-to-1 (or 2-to-1) basis. I guess I'm a dreamer at heart, and a hardcore idealist if it wasn't for my cynical part (... but I keep it under control).
Somehow, the idea that I'd find a princess in shining armor who shared the same feeling of non-belonging as me got stuck in my head when I was a child, and it's difficult to give it up completely. If you feel slightly addressed by this description, please contact me, we might be a good match*.
...Where do I begin? What could I say about myself that already isn't being said by every guy here? Do I even care to try and seem unique, apart, different and somehow more appealing? Yeah, I do. Otherwise I wouldnt be stating my deliberation. I'll just try honesty:
I'm a HUGE Comic book Nerd. Not the kind who lives in his mom's basement, but the kind who sees it as the highest form of art and entertainment available. at the same time I appreciate almost everything else in some form or another. I love movies, Scripted TV shows that aren't being passed off as the reality genre, The occasional Science-Fiction or Fantasy Novel, And almost every kind of music out there as long as it's being performed with passion.
If you would like to know more about me then shoot me a message. I'd love to get to know you. I mean if you're at all interested in me You've most likely got good instincts and are pretty awesome yourself.
